Scholarship Application Information

IAMG scholarships are available to students who reside in Illinois, while meeting the minimum eligibility requirements and deadlines to qualify. Scholarship awards must be applied toward tuition, educational equipment, fees, and books. Eligibility for all scholarships requires that the applicant:

Eligibility for all scholarships requires that the applicant:

  • Is an Illinois resident
  • Applicants should be accepted or enrolled at an accredited institution of higher learning, to include community college, public or private institution of higher education, certified vocational training program, and/or graduating high school senior entering an advance educational program with verified documentation of acceptance
  • Has the required minimum Grade Point Average (2.5 GPA)
  • Demonstrates leadership, community involvement and service
  • Submits the following documents:
    • Completed application---incomplete applications will not be considered
    • Official academic transcript (sealed) from your high school or institution
    • Proof of acceptance/application to an accredited post-secondary institution of higher learning.
    • Three (3) sealed letters of recommendation forms of which one MUST be from a current IAMG member.
    • Resume including your academic achievements, awards and recognitions, school and extra-curricular activities, leadership positions held, community and public service, hobbies, special talents, and any other pertinent information about yourself
    • Personal Statement/Essay (500 words or less) Describe your character, your academic and collegiate goals, your long-range career goals and how you see yourself making a meaningful contribution to the African American community, and why you believe you should receive this scholarship. The statement may highlight any personal challenge (s) overcome
    • Submit recent photo (passport size) No copies

Your personal statement/essay must be typed and legible. Illinois Association of Minorities in Government reserves the right to eliminate any incomplete, late, or illegible applications and supporting documents. If you are awarded a scholarship, fall schedules must be submitted no later than September 15, 2013 to Marva Campbell-Pruitt or your scholarship will be forfeited.
